Firebird and U.S. Government Launch $4 Billion AI Initiative in Armenia, Expanding to 50,000 GPUs

U.S.-based AI infrastructure firm Firebird has unveiled the second phase of its Armenian AI supercomputing project, obtaining U.S. export approval for an additional 41,000 NVIDIA GB300 graphics processing units destined for Armenia.
The expansion brings the total investment to $4 billion and will establish one of the world’s five largest AI GPU installations in the country, representing Armenia’s largest technology infrastructure investment to date.

Vice President JD Vance revealed the project details during a Yerevan visit, appearing at a joint briefing with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, NVIDIA’s Rev Lebaredian (Vice President of Omniverse and Simulation Technology), and Firebird co-founders Razmig Hovaghimian and Alexander Yesayan.

Armenian Leadership Welcomes Partnership

Prime Minister Pashinyan remarked: “The August 8 Memorandum between Armenia and the United States covering semiconductors and artificial intelligence now enables Firebird’s megaproject to construct an AI facility and data center in Armenia. The transparent, collaborative relationship in high-tech between our nations will strengthen the mutually beneficial partnerships between Armenian and American companies.”

U.S. Administration Highlights Economic Opportunity

Vice President Vance stated: “This represents a fresh chapter in Armenian-American cooperation. The United States has authorized this significant NVIDIA technical agreement, creating market opportunities and employment for both American workers and companies, as well as Armenia. These advanced chips, unavailable in most countries worldwide, will power data centers built in Armenia through the Prime Minister’s leadership.”

Regulatory Framework and Strategic Vision

The approved U.S. export license permits advanced NVIDIA hardware sales and import into Armenia, confirming the project’s alignment with American regulatory requirements and reflecting strong institutional confidence in the initiative.
This second phase follows Firebird’s initial $500 million investment, which created Armenia’s first high-performance AI computing infrastructure. Combined, both phases significantly upgrade Armenia’s technological capabilities, supporting research in life sciences, robotics, aerospace, and advanced AI applications.

Building Global AI Infrastructure

Firebird CEO and co-founder Razmig Hovaghimian commented: “Firebird extends American AI technology leadership internationally, consistent with our commitment to making AI beneficial for everyone. This cluster positions Armenia as a global supercomputing center, showing how trusted U.S. infrastructure can strengthen emerging economies. We appreciate both governments’ partnership in enabling American technology to operate at global scale.”
The megaproject aims to build a competitive, sustainable technology ecosystem in Armenia through secure infrastructure, international collaboration, and lasting economic value.

The initiative demonstrates how international cooperation, compatible regulatory systems, and shared innovation goals can deliver significant national transformation.
