Inflection AI made an official announcement today about securing $1.3 billion in a recent funding round. The funding was primarily led by Microsoft, Reid Hoffman, Bill Gates, Eric Schmidt, and included participation from new investor NVIDIA. With this latest injection of capital, the company’s total funding now amounts to $1.525 billion.
The newly acquired funds will provide crucial support for Inflection AI as they continue their ongoing efforts to develop and design their inaugural product, which was introduced in May. This groundbreaking AI, called Pi, is specifically crafted to serve as a compassionate and helpful companion. It engages in text and voice conversations, providing friendly guidance and delivering concise, natural-sounding information in a smooth and effortless manner.
“Personal AI is going to be the most transformational tool of our lifetimes. This is truly an inflection point. We’re excited to collaborate with NVIDIA, Microsoft, and CoreWeave as well as Eric, Bill and many others to bring this vision to life,” said Mustafa Suleyman, CEO and co-founder of Inflection AI.
The utilization of a cluster comprising 22,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs is an extraordinary feat, providing crucial support for training and implementing a new breed of large-scale AI models. Collectively, this cluster generates an astonishing 22 exaFLOPS when operating in 16-bit precision mode, and potentially even higher when employing lower precision. Based on our analysis, if our cluster were to participate in the recent TOP500 list of supercomputers, it would secure an impressive second place, nearing the pinnacle, despite its optimization for AI applications rather than scientific ones. The deployment of this cluster is currently in progress, and we have already confirmed its outstanding performance through the recent MLPerf benchmark.
“We’re proud to support Inflection AI as they pursue their vision for more trusted and personal AI experiences,” said Kevin Scott, CTO and EVP AI, Microsoft. “It is an exciting time, and ambitious AI companies like Inflection AI are pioneering the industry with transformative products that are accessible, easy to use, and show the many possibilities of AI.”
